So here’s my question…

Isn’t part of the layering and “piecing” what makes the cuts have flair and dimention? Do you think your projects will be better with an image cut out and printed all on one sheet? I mean, not having to glue every piece would be nice…but will it lose some of its “homemade”-ness?

And what about the price? $599 is pretty steep. Do you see this replacing the Cricut machines we use now?

I’m a casual scrapper so this for me is WAY to expensive, and yes, I think it absolutely takes away from the charm. I also rather like the putzy-ness of paper piecing. Those putzy days are what get me through the Minnesota winters. :-)
I just recently broke down and purchased the Expression and I’ve barely scratched the surface. Maybe by the time I’m ready to consider the Imagine there will be a significant price drop.

Told my husband not to worry. HP ink is so expensive! I think from the video you still have to piece and glue together but if the design got just a misting of liquid it would be ruint! At least that is what I think. My daughter and I love our cricut expression! I have MTC also. Between it and the carts my daughter and I have we are happy campers!

  3. I am not sure I will purchase one, even though I will probably need to replace my expression within the next year. I have had it since it came out, and am beginning to notice that it is slowing down. First the price, a lttle steep, and second, I enjoy the paper piecing aspect of the cricut. I agree it would take away the handcrafted aspect of the project.

  4. Michelle Ferris says:

Well , hmmmmmm…. that is interesting. It will certainly speed up what we are doing by not having to piece things together and it will certainly save a fortune on paper! BUT, what cost are the new carts for this machine, and how much for ea ink cart? What will the savings be when this is figured in? Price of machine will come down ,but is way to rich for my blood right now. I am sure there will be some bugs to work out so at $600 I am really not interested in it right now. Also noticed they made no mention of it being compatible with design studio. Is it or isn’t it ? Just my quick thoughts after viewing the 3 videos.

The concept is good, but not great. Is there a scrapbooker amoung any of the engineers? Provo Craft gave us a printer, but not one that prints anything but Cricut images. Now, if they would have taken the extra step and made the Imagine a full format 12×12 printer as well, can all you scrapbookers “Imagine” what you could have done with that? You would have been able to print and cut out all of your pictures and journaling and well and any art images and you could have done it all on one machine. This means you would need only one machine in you scrapbook room and think of all the counter space that would free up. Come on Provo Craft, if I can Imagine it, can’t you?

Let’s also talk price. Most 12×12 printers are in the $400-600 price range and we know that the price will come down on HSN. The cartridges will retail for about the same as the current cartridges but their prices will also drop over time or can be purchased online at reduced prices. (I have over 100 cartridges and $40 is the most I have every paid for any of them.) I feel the ink cartridge price is the deal breaker for me. $75.00 (the cost for both ink cartridges) will print 150 pages. Remember that is only printing art images and text. It will not print pictures (which uses more ink) from your computer yet. I could buy a new Expression with the cost of replacing ink cartridges only 3 times!

I will be looking forward to see what Provo Craft can do to improve this product. They won’t get my money until I get more for it!

Ohhhh…..what a great idea! I would’ve been first in line if it was a full format 12×12 printer!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Margaret says:

Let me see…$600 dollars for the machine, $75 for ink cartridges…I don’t think so. Way, way to costly just to save a little time of putting things together. You can buy alot of paper for $675!

  8. UC says:

Great concept- but I agree, it should be able to print 12×12 straight from my computer. Perhaps there will be a way to get this done through USB, but we’ll have to wait and see. And wow, the print cartridges would really be that much? Wow!

Also, they mention Gypsy, but what about Cricut Design Studio on the PC? (Love the idea of Gypsy, but a bit pricey when I’ve already invested in all of the jukebox/Design studio.)

All in all, glad to see that ProvoCraft is coming up with new ideas and moving them along……

  9. Barbara says:

Anyone know what kind of HP ink? Not all ink is created equal. Will it fade? Important for a home dec project that is exposed to the light. What will happen if a drop of water hits it? What kind of paper are you going to be required to purchase so the ink will hold up? I think there are a lot of hidden costs.

  10. Debbie says:

I will keep on using my Cricut and hate i bought the Gypsy, its ok but the Cricut is sufficient. The Imagine will stay in my Imagination because its a bit expensive.

    • brandikay says:

Oh my goodness…I LOVE my Gypsy! I’m glad too bc I would be so disappointed if I spent all that money and didn’t love it. :( Sorry to hear you don’t like it.

  11. dkinney says:

I was really excited about the imagine until I read “cleversomeday” blog. It is not compatible with the design studio or scal. It will not cut on the 12 x 24 mat. It’s waaaaaaay too expensive. At least I can catch the cricut expresion cartridges on sale or on ebay. I agree that it will take about the creativity and “home madeness” of my projects. That is what relaxes me. I think I will wait..

  12. ssmith says:

Nope…the Imagine is not for me. After spending hundreds of dollars on the Expression, many cartridges, the Gypsy, and accessories, only to see the prices plummeting, I prefer to hold on to my hard-earned cash. I’ll make do with what I have, which is plenty to keep me crafting until I die. Provocraft, you need to come up with more reasonably priced enhancements.

  13. kajufa says:

i can buy a ton of good stuff for $675. the imagine just didn’t do it for me. it was mildly interesting until i learned the price of the ink cartridges then i was supremely disappointed. i think it’s a rip-off. what makes them any different from any other of hp’s ink cartridges. just because they have cricut printed on the packaging somewhere? i bet printing your own 11.5×11.5 patterned paper and those color cartridges don’t go very far. i have an expression and it has more bells and whistles i need. i don’t need a machine gun to swat a mosquito. the imagine is overkill.

  14. Lorena Ricken says:

Oh my! I totally want this machine. I know it’s pricey but I have the personal Cricut and have used it for bday invitations for my kids and it’s a lot of work. This machine could potentially save me time and I can use 3d effects on some cuts… I’m SO tempted!! The $ is really the only thing holding me back AND I heard theres an Expression2???
